Our digital services teams are made up of a wide variety of experience and expertise. They help us design, deliver and maintain over 30 digital services. Find out more about the team and how they work from Catherine Quigley, one of our senior service delivery managers.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I live in Bolton with my husband, youngest son and our dog Felix. I know Felix is normally a cat’s name but it’s a gentleman’s name too and Felix is certainly that!
When I’m not working, I enjoy a bit of interior design and DIY. I am always buying new power tools for the latest jobs at home - much to my husband’s dismay.
Describe your career journey so far.
I’ve had an unconventional career path and an eclectic mix of jobs. My dream was to own a health farm, so I qualified as a beauty therapist and then completed a management degree.
After realising there wasn’t much money to be made in the beauty industry without owning a salon, I looked around for other roles and fell into the fun and challenging world of engineering in the cinema industry. I managed an engineering department providing support services to cinema chains across the UK.
Being able to fix a popcorn machine is a useful skill but doesn’t provide a lot of career options. Thankfully, I ran cinema installation projects that helped me develop my project management and delivery skills.
This led me to join NICE in 2010. I started on a temporary contract before taking on the role of senior service delivery manager permanently in 2013. So, I’ve been around a while!

How has NICE supported you in achieving your goals?
This role has given me the opportunity to work on lots of different applications for various services. Many of these services are live and I have been able to work in an empowered team that puts user needs first in everything we do.
Some applications I have seen through their full life cycle, such as our Guidance app and Pathways. Others I’ve been involved in re-platforming and transforming, such as our Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) and British National Formulary (BNF) work.
Some I’m still supporting, most notably the NICE website. I worked on the release of the NICE website when it was first built in-house and I still support the site, working on the changes to come with a new CMS and site-wide improvements.
What does a senior service delivery manager at NICE do?
I cover a lot of different roles, but first and foremost, I support the team to ensure that we deliver the best digital services for our users.
Our service delivery managers are the interface between our Digital, Information and Technology team (DIT) and the rest of the organisation, or the third-party suppliers we sometimes work with.
Our job is to plan, adapt, deliver, report and improve our digital products. We work on products that are already established and in use. On new products in development and on decommissioning products that have reached the end of their life.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
The variety. Working with so many different services offers me the chance to work with different people from across the organisation. Many of them are friends as well as colleagues. It’s the people here at NICE that make it such a great place to work.
What do you think is the biggest perk of working for NICE?
The organisation has been supportive and flexible when it comes to working patterns. I have had many life changes while working here and I‘ve been lucky enough to be able to alter my working pattern several times over the years to help me get the balance I need.
I’ve worked many different patterns, including part-time and compressed hours. It’s all helped me manage the demands of my personal and family life as well as the demands of my job. This flexibility has been one of the main reasons I’ve remained at NICE for so long.
